Workers on the shop floor at Gonnella Frozen Products began wearing face shields over their bump caps, the latest precaution taken at the plant in Humboldt Industrial Park where one worker developed COVID-19 more than a week ago.
As a bread producer that ships nationwide from its plant in Hazle Twp. and other plants nearer Chicago, where the bakery began 135 years ago, Gonnella’s work is critical according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and essential according to the order of the Pennsylvania governor.
So the Hazleton plant, which makes frozen dough, and Gonnella’s 700 employees at its combined operations will keep producing while following best practices provided by government agencies and the American Bakers Association.
