America’s baking industry, represented by the American Bakers Association (ABA), applauds the House of Representatives and Senate for overwhelmingly passing and President Biden for signing legislation to prevent a freight rail stoppage. ABA also thanks its Member companies - which produce 85% of the baked goods in the U.S. - for providing examples of the devastating impacts a shutdown would have caused American consumers.
"We appreciate all the feedback we received from members on the impact a shutdown would have on our industry, as it helped us to educate Congress and the administration," said Robb MacKie, President and CEO, ABA. "ABA has been actively engaged with the White House, USDA, FDA, Congressional Leadership, and Congress advocating for them to take action to avert a rail shutdown. We strongly believe our Members' stories made a big impression on D.C. lawmakers with their concrete, 'on-the-ground' details of what could have happened."
