What is the Commodity and Agriculture Policy Professionals Group?
The ABA Commodity and Agriculture Policy Professionals Group discusses pressing issues related to trade policy and its impact on the baking sector. The Group is made up of ABA Member companies' procurement, purchasing, and commodity professionals who work together to ensure the industry has an adequate supply of critical ingredients and financially plan for their future. Baking companies and suppliers rely on ingredients such as wheat and sugar to produce their products and fuel their business success. Therefore, even the smallest change to certain agricultural commodities can cause a significant impact on a company.

The Commodity and Agriculture Policy Professionals Group shares information on issues around trade, sustainability, market volatility, commodity transportation, and more. At the most recent CAPC meeting, the group discussed the latest policy issues impacting the backing industry such as the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), tariffs, and the Fair Sugar Policy Act.

Issues related to commodities are constantly in flux, which is why it's critical for companies to stay up to date with the latest information from experts. Not only will you learn from experts in specific issue areas, such as wheat transportation, but you will help inform ABA's positions to advocate on behalf of the industry to Congress, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Trade Representative, and U.S. Department of Transportation. Member participation is key to making meaningful change for your company in DC.
Attendance is not mandatory but is highly encouraged since active participation is the best way to stay up to date on the latest regulations and policies. There are no additional Membership dues to be a part of this Group--or any group--nor a need to apply to be in it. There is no limit to the number of people in the Group per ABA Member company. The more insight from our Members, the more meaningful the actions we can take together.
Why do people sometimes call this Group CAPC?
ABA's Professionals Groups were formerly known as Committees. This change more accurately reflects the purpose and vision of the Group. Before it became the Commodity and Agriculture Policy Professionals Group, it was the Commodity and Agriculture Policy Committee or CAPC for short.
