What is the Human Resources (HR) and Safety Professionals Group?
ABA’s HR and Safety Professionals Group discusses pressing topics related to labor and workplace issues. The Group is made up of ABA Member companies’ human resources, operations, safety, and legal professionals who work together to ensure the industry is compliant with the laws and regulations. A key initiative of the Group is the ABA Safety Recognition Program. 169 Member facilities received the 2018 ABA Safety Recognition Award for excelling in workplace safety and increasing safety awareness. Baking industry workplace-related injury reports dropped 0.03% in 2018 compared to the previous year, resulting in more individuals returning home safe to their families and around $16 million savings in injury claims.
What are some decisions the HR and Safety Professionals Group makes?
Group members share strategies to help protect the industry’s skilled workforce and to address legislative and regulatory impacts on the daily operations of human resources and labor relations. The Group tackles issues related to workforce recruitment and retention, workers’ compensation and benefits, independent contractor classification, combustible dust, injury and illness prevention, health care, and more. For example, the Group recently hosted a webinar with an update on Labor Policy and covering CBD/Cannabis Laws and their Impact on the Workplace. During this in-depth webinar, ABA’s Labor Counsel provided valuable insight on the most up to date legislative/regulatory labor policy developments along with important updates on the hot button topic of cannabis laws and its impact in the workplace.
Why should my company be part of this Group?
Through the HR and Safety Professionals Group, your company will stay informed on the latest policies through regular updates from ABA staff as well as conferences and webinars where attendees learn directly from experts on labor and safety regulations. As with all of ABA’s Professionals Groups, attendance is not mandatory but is highly encouraged to get the most of ABA’s resources and to meet industry peers. There are no additional Membership dues to be a part of this Group–or any group–nor a need to apply to be in it. There is no limit to the number of people in the Group per ABA Member company. The more insight from our Members, the more meaningful the actions we can take together. If these reasons aren’t enough, ABA develops its policy priorities based on member feedback, so we need your input to drive our policy decisions.
Why are HR and Safety combined into one Group?
Due to overlapping issue areas, the HR and Safety Professionals Groups were combined to streamline our Professional Groups and most importantly, make it easier for our members to efficiently gain critical knowledge about HR and safety.
